Daniel R. Kanell is an orthopedic surgeon on
staff at Broward General Medical Center. He also
serves as team physician for South Florida’s major
league teams, including the Miami Dolphins football team and the
Florida Marlins baseball team.
Physician Bio
Dr. Kanell graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and the
University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
He completed an internship at Long Island
College Hospital and his residency in orthopedic
surgery at New York University - Bellevue Medical Center.
Dr. Kanell is board certified by the American
Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a fellow in the American
Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and a
member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons, Arthroscopy Association of North
America, NFL Team Physicians Society,
Major League Baseball Physicians Association
and a participant in the Broward County
Medical Association’s “We Care” program.
He was selected as Doctor of the Year by the Caducean Society of
Broward County. He has volunteered as a medical missionary in
Honduras.
More than 20 years ago, Dr. Kanell founded the Sports Medicine
Program for the Broward County School Board, which provides physical
exams and medical support for thousands of student athletes. He
has been a consultant for Olympic athletes as well as high school
athletic teams. He has also been an instructor at
the American Academy of Orhopaedic Surgeons, clinical associate
professor of orthopaedic surgery at University of
Florida Shands Teaching Hospital and director
of sports medicine programs throughout South Florida.
