Broward Health Athletic Training
Caring for our Youngest Athletes
“Here in Broward County there is a tremendous emphasis on athletics. High school athletes are especially motivated, and their parents can rest assured knowing there is an athletic trainer attending sporting events to care for their children,” said Frank Walters, PhD, ATC, director of sports medicine for Broward Health. “Our athletic trainers are nationally board certified and work directly with our healthcare system. Parents can pick up the phone and speak to a physician regarding a particular injury their child may have and receive the best treatment possible.”
Pre-Participation Screenings
As the exclusive provider of sports medicine for the Broward County School Board, Broward Health offers physicals for students each year. The physicals are conducted by a team of physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists and nurses and are offered at Broward Health facilities, medical centers and other community locations.
Education
When a young athlete is injured, the consequences can sometimes last a lifetime. That is why Broward Health has developed a comprehensive program to help protect the youngest athletes. We offer sports-specific programs and classes for coaches, parents and students to help build awareness of injury prevention and conditioning strategies, nutrition, and injury care.
Game Practice and Supervision
To minimize injury or re-injury among student athletes, our team of athletic trainers provides on-site, pre-practice and game preparation for 20 public high schools in the area. The athletic trainers attend all practices, home games and tournaments, providing supervision as well as padding, bracing and onside treatment of athletic injuries. Game and practice supervision services are provided for all school-sponsored events.
