Broward Health Orthopedic Services

Broward Health is the County’s leading provider in orthopedic services.  We offer orthopedic care in a variety of settings and through a variety of sub-specialties.

At Broward General Medical Center, Drs. Daniel Kanell, George Caldwell and Erol Yoldas specialize in treating professional, high school and recreational athletes, focusing on injuries to the shoulder, knee and elbow. While their emphasis is on sports medicine, they also treat individuals whose daily activities have caused damage to those parts of the body.

The Joint Replacement Center at Broward General Medical Center, led by W. Vincent Burke, M.D., consists of a specialty trained, customer-focused team whose main goal is to improve the lives of its patients and promote speedy recovery back to a state of independence. The program differs from the current care of joint replacement patients in three primary ways: Heavy emphasis on pre- and post-op patient education, standardization of orders/routines, and intense inpatient physical therapy.

Recently, Broward General Medical Center was selected as one of 14 leading medical centers across the country to provide joint replacement surgery for retired National Football League players. It is the only location selected in Florida [more...].

Broward General also offers anterior hip replacement surgery - a less invasive approach resulting in the elimination of the standard precautions associated with traditional hip replacement.

North Broward Medical Center is one of only two South Florida healthcare facilities to offer computer-assisted, total hip and knee replacement surgery. In addition to the benefits of state-of-the-art technology, patients have the opportunity to undergo the procedure at Broward County’s second largest healthcare facility, which also features an inpatient rehabilitation unit and an orthopedic program considered one of the best in the tri-county area.

North Broward Medical Center offers anterior hip replacement surgery with the use of the Hana Table, a specially designed surgical table that allows the surgeon to replace the hip without detachment of the muscles from the pelvis or femur.

At Coral Springs Medical Center, our orthopedic team offers quality comprehensive orthopedic care including subspecialties in: sports, spine, hand, reconstructive procedures, gender-specific knee replacement for women and mini-incision hip replacement surgery.

The Outpatient Services Center at Imperial Point Medical Center, two-time winner of the Medical Business Journal Healthcare Award for the "Best Hospital Based Outpatient Service Department," brings together diverse services in a centralized location and has a high patient satisfaction score of 99%.  The orthopedics and sports medicine program brings together physicians, surgeons, athletic trainers and physician therapists to diagnose and treat orthopedic problems and sports injuries such as torn ligaments and ACL. Total joint replacements are performed with the Stryker Navigation System for a more precise cutting of bone and proper fitting of prosthesis.  For rehabilitation, the physical therapy program offers a full scope of services for the treatment of orthopedic injury and musculoskeletal dysfunction to restore joint mobility, increase strength and manage pain.

At Broward Health Weston our experienced physical therapists and assistants have extensive sports medicine backgrounds to provide individualized hands on care for all patient needs: From chronic pain management to post surgical patients to workers compensation to seasoned athletes.

Utilizing the latest rehabilitation equipment to improve endurance and strength, the patient-athlete will participate in sport-specific rehabilitation program to allow athletes of all levels to regain and retain the ability to play and compete at their optimal levels.
